Fieldfolio has always been a B2B marketplace, connecting wholesale sellers with retail buyers and facilitating orders between the two. Up until this point, though, payment for those orders mostly happened outside the platform. Fieldfolio Payments is a product we built to change that, so buyers and sellers could transact directly on Fieldfolio.
It turns Fieldfolio into a payments marketplace: buyers can now pay for their orders at checkout, and those payments are routed through to the sellers. We used Stripe Connect to do this, which lets sellers connect their own Stripe accounts to Fieldfolio, so Fieldfolio can route and process each order’s payment through to the right seller.
As part of the same project, we also delivered a shipping system for calculating basic shipping charges on Australian and New Zealand orders.
I led this as the lead developer and architect, with a developer on my team helping on the build. It was all built on Fieldfolio’s stack – Stripe, Ruby on Rails and GraphQL on the backend, with Next.js and React on the frontend.
